Demo helper GRI guidance density comparison (D-g-4) Page 3 of 3 · Hidden-guidance indicator options Invented data · Bluefin Foods Group (fictional tenant)
Annotation · PROPOSAL, the pick is the PM'sThree candidate affordances for one job: in compact density, tell the user that guidance exists here but is hidden. Each is mocked on the same fragment of the table-answer entry surface from page 01, with the same two tips hidden behind it. All three are proposals; none is drawn as chosen. Clicking a drawing previews the reveal, but that click behavior is a demo helper only: the reveal interaction itself is a separate decided-once decision at the guidance UX round (explain-layer design, item 5), not part of this pick.

The idea: a soft animated rainbow-gradient ring wraps the whole region whose guidance is hidden; no text, no count. A full ring, so it complies with the no-partial-edge-stripe rule, and the drift is slow and pastel (and stops entirely for users with reduced motion set). Pro: impossible to miss and it marks the exact region, with zero vertical space cost. Con: a permanently animated ring keeps pulling the eye and can read as an error or a promotion; with several hidden regions on one page the page shimmers, and the ring says nothing about what or how much is hidden.
Option B · Quiet badge · PROPOSAL

The idea: a small muted badge with a count sits at the region's top edge ("2 hidden tips"); clicking it expands the guidance in place. Pro: quiet, honest about how much is hidden, and it scales cleanly when many regions on one page hide guidance. Con: easy to overlook entirely, and "tips" is a word users have to learn; a user who never notices the badge never learns the guidance exists.
Option C · Collapsed strip · PROPOSAL

Guidance hidden (2)
The idea: a one-line thin strip with a chevron sits exactly where the guidance would render ("Guidance hidden (2)"); clicking it expands in place. Pro: reads without any learning, carries a count, and the click target is large and exactly where the content appears. Con: it still spends a line per region, so compact density saves less vertical space than the other two; on a page with many hidden regions the strips themselves become clutter.
Demo helper · the click previewClicking any of the three drawings shows the two hidden tips in place (click again to hide). This is a wireframe demo aid so the reveal can be felt, not a proposal for the interaction; hover, focus, and keyboard behavior, plus the announced-reveal accessibility contract, belong to the explain-layer component contract and the separate reveal-interaction decision.
Annotation · scope of this pickWhatever is picked marks EXPLANATORY hidden guidance only. Warn strips, refusal reasons, ruling-pinned text, and composed catalog guidance never collapse (spec 7.4), so no indicator ever stands in for them, in any option. The counts shown ("2") are per region, not per page; whether a page-level summary of hidden guidance also exists is not proposed here. Options can also be combined (for example B's badge plus A's ring shown only on first visit); the drawings keep them separate so each can be judged alone.
