Adopt a newer edition early
Standards get newer editions from time to time, and each newer edition comes with a date from which reports have to use it. Before that date you may choose to use it anyway, as long as it is already published in the platform catalog. That choice is what this panel records. It is a reporting decision about how your report is written, not a settings change, so it is confirmed and kept with your name on it.
This is a partial replacement, so the GRI 305 2016 edition does not leave your edition set. It stays for 305-6 and 305-7, the two disclosures the newer edition does not replace.
- Your report uses the GRI 102 2027 edition for everything that edition covers, instead of the matching parts of the GRI 305 2016 edition.
- These disclosures of the GRI 305 2016 edition are excluded from your report: 305-1, 305-2, 305-3, 305-4, 305-5.
- Nothing else in the edition set changes. GRI 2, GRI 3, GRI 302, and GRI 101 are untouched.
Server refusal if adopted anyway 422 VERSION_NOT_ADOPTABLE
- Your edition set changes now, while the cycle is a draft: the GRI 102 2027 edition joins it, and disclosures 305-1 to 305-5 of the GRI 305 2016 edition drop out.
- This is a deliberate reporting decision and it is recorded with who made it and when. It is kept with the cycle, so anyone reviewing or auditing the report later can see the choice was made on purpose and by whom.
- You can change or remove this choice for as long as this cycle stays a draft.
- When you activate the cycle the edition set locks. From that point this choice is part of the permanent record of the cycle and cannot be changed. To report differently you would archive this cycle and create a new one.
- Data entry screens are built from the edition set, so the clauses your team is asked to fill in change with it.
No newer editions are available to adopt
Every standard in your edition set is already on its current edition, and no newer edition of them is published in the platform catalog yet. There is nothing to decide here. If a newer edition is published before you activate this cycle, it will appear in this panel.
PUT /v1/reporting-cycles/:id/early-adoption, admin role, draft cycles only, executed inside the cycle critical section. It is deliberately not part of ordinary cycle editing: spec i's generic edit route has a closed field whitelist that this spec does not reopen, so early adoption cannot appear as one more field on the edit form and cannot be changed by accident while someone is fixing a typo. The PM's recorded reasoning on 2026-08-24: early adoption is a deliberate business decision, not an ordinary field edit, so it deserves explicit permissions, validation, and audit history. That is why this is a two-step panel with a named confirmation rather than a dropdown.VERSION_NOT_ADOPTABLE, which is the constant behind the greyed row above; the screen states the reason in words and shows the constant only in small muted text. Two choices naming the same standard are refused with OVERRIDE_INVALID. Choices are canonicalized before they are stored, so the order they were made in cannot produce two different edition sets from the same decisions. When an override pulls in an edition that replaces its predecessor only partly, the predecessor stays with its replaced disclosures excluded, which is exactly what the effect block draws.305=gri-102-2027, which never appears on a screen.
